About me

Born in the Midwest, I moved to Seattle a few years after graduating college with an Interior Design degree and an art minor. I worked as an interior designer most of my professional life, both in commercial interiors and residential. I started printmaking about 20 years ago and have been addicted every since. I love the physicality of the printmaking process, moving around the room between the workspace, sink, press, racks and display areas. I strive to embrace the happy accidents and challenges of the printmaking process in creating imagery that feels somewhat familiar but is not clearly defined. My encaustic work mimics my printmaking direction in the collage type process. And lastly, as a dancer most of my life, I like to express that same sense of gestural movement and vagueness in my paintings as well.

Artist Statement

Much of my work reflects my interest in architecture and the environment, developing a relationship between structure, nature and culture as a universal landscape. The profession of interior design required pragmatic and analytical use of three dimensional space. In my art work, I purposely stay away from the hardline and work to capture or interpret that emotional essence of a time and place, interweaving the basic design elements of color, proportion, harmony and contrast much like manmade structures interweave and contrast with nature. Creativity is a process of continual intermedial steps and problem-solving, and my work evolves on its own terms. I let the spirit of the medium and the moment express itself with the end results hovering between representation and abstraction.
